C&D containers / contractor dispatch

Construction dumpster rental in Kansas City

Roll-offs for tear-offs, demolition, remodels, and new builds on both sides of the state line. Weight terms in writing, disposal handled to each state's rules, and boxes swapped as the job phases turn over. Call with the scope.

01 / THE LOADS

One box per waste stream.

The material decides the container, not the other way around.

How we spec a jobsite

Demolition and framing volume goes to the 30-yard box — six-foot walls for material that stacks loose and light. Roofing rides in the 20, where the weight allowance is built around the squares coming off. Concrete, brick, and block get the 15 with a restricted fill height, because dense loads max out the truck long before they fill a wall. Phased jobs run boxes in sequence: demo box out, framing-scrap box in, one call per swap.

A tear-off market, verifiably

Roofing work here is not a marketing line. The National Weather Service office serving Kansas City issued 244 severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings by late April 2026 — the fastest pace on record for that point in the year since tracking began in 1986, before the season even peaked. Hail springs like that fill contractor calendars with tear-offs for months, and every one of those roofs needs a box under it with honest weight terms.

02 / CONCRETE

Clean loads earn cheaper handling.

Missouri calls it clean fill. Kansas calls it clean rubble. Both revoke it the moment the load mixes.

Missouri: clean fill under RSMo 260.200(4)

Missouri statute defines clean fill as uncontaminated soil, rock, sand, gravel, concrete, asphaltic concrete, cinder blocks, brick, and minimal amounts of wood and metal, used for fill or other beneficial purposes. A site taking only those materials needs no solid waste disposal permit. Two details contractors actually use: concrete with rebar still counts once exposed rebar is removed to the extent practical, and roofing shingles, sheetrock, and lumber are expressly not clean fill — so demo sequencing decides whether your concrete stays clean.

Kansas: clean rubble under K.S.A. 65-3402

Kansas defines clean rubble as concrete and concrete products including reinforcing steel, asphalt pavement, brick, and rock. Delivered to a landfill separately, clean rubble is exempt from the state solid waste tonnage fee. But the statute's teeth point the other way: rubble that mixes with other C&D debris during demolition or hauling legally becomes C&D waste and must go to a permitted landfill. The saving is earned in the loading order, not at the gate.

On either side of the line the play is identical — a dedicated concrete box, loaded with nothing else. We set it up in one call at (816) 357-8932.

03 / DISPOSAL

Where the C&D goes.

Named facilities on both sides — the address picks the path.

Johnson County publishes its disposal roster: the Johnson County Landfill in Shawnee takes both municipal solid waste and C&D, two dedicated C&D landfills operate in Overland Park (the APAC-KS Stanley facility) and Olathe (Asphalt Sales Company), and the City of Olathe runs a transfer station on Valley Road. On the Missouri side, C&D debris moves through the Mark II transfer station on US 40 in Kansas City and toward the Courtney Ridge landfill in Sugar Creek. Kansas C&D landfills will not take friable asbestos, garbage, or appliances with the refrigerant still in them — flag anything unusual before it hits the box.

One thing Kansas C&D landfills do take that surprises Missouri crews: trees, brush, sod, uncontaminated pallets, and vegetation from land clearing and storm cleanup. On cross-state operations, that difference alone can decide which side's box a land-clearing load belongs in.

04 / STAGING

Keep the box on the site.

The moment it touches the street, a city process starts.

A container inside the construction fence or on the building pad answers to nobody but the site plan. In the street, it answers to the city: Kansas City, Missouri routes dumpster right-of-way permits through Compass KC, Lee's Summit layers a separate temporary traffic control permit on arterial and collector streets and holds permittees to a 21-day damage-repair rule, and Overland Park processes right-of-way permits through its ePLACE system. Jurisdiction by jurisdiction, fees and conditions included, it is all on our dumpster permit page — read it before promising a curb-lane box in a bid.

Contractor questions, answered.

Mixed loads, concrete, permits, and weight terms.

Can mixed C&D debris go in one container?

Yes — framing, drywall, roofing, flooring, and fixtures can share a box, and that mixed load travels as construction and demolition waste to a permitted facility. The one thing worth keeping out is clean concrete and masonry: once it mixes with other debris, it loses its cheaper clean-fill or clean-rubble handling. If the job produces real concrete volume, order a dedicated box for it.

Should concrete get its own dumpster?

On any demo with meaningful concrete, brick, or block, yes. Missouri treats uncontaminated concrete and masonry as clean fill, and Kansas exempts separately delivered clean rubble from the state tonnage fee — but both benefits die the moment other debris mixes in during loading or hauling. We quote dense loads into the 15-yard box with a set fill height.

Who pulls the permit when the box sits in the street?

The permit belongs to the party occupying the right-of-way, and the application runs through the city that owns the street — Compass KC in Kansas City, Missouri, the Public Works counter in Lee’s Summit, ePLACE in Overland Park. We fold the approved conditions into the delivery plan; our permit page walks through each jurisdiction.

How are weight allowances handled on construction loads?

The quote states an included weight allowance based on the material you describe — roofing squares, demo scope, concrete volume. Dense loads get a restricted fill height so the box stays legally liftable. Describe the debris honestly up front; a surprise overweight box at pickup helps nobody’s schedule.
